Jacquelyn J. Thompson has an extensive background in special education and early childhood education. She has worked as a Speech & Language Pathologist in school districts in Michigan, New York, and Wisconsin; has been a teacher in preschool programs in Michigan; and served in the Michigan Department of Education as Early Childhood Coordinator and as State Director for Special Education. As an independent consultant, Dr. Thompson has worked with Cross & Joftus, LLC providing systemic reviews of special education systems in school districts in Texas, Alabama, Kansas, and New York. She has also supported strategic design for professional learning in education service agencies in Michigan.
Jacquelyn received her undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, and her Master's and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. She has served as an appointee to the Commission on Equity & Excellence in Education; the report of this commission, For Each and Every Child, was released by the U.S. Department of Education in March 2013. Dr. Thompson is currently serving as an academic specialist for K-12 Outreach in the College of Education at Michigan State University, providing consultation and leadership to address achievement gaps and systems for supporting students with disabilities.
